Presentation

Starting from the year 2000, the Open Society Foundation Romania continues its activity supporting the development of the Romanian society in a new formula.

The Bucuresti, Cluj, Iasi and Timisoara branches of the Foundation have become independent organizations. All new organizations will interact within a dynamic, flexible and easily adaptable network: the Soros Open Network (SON). The new offer of programs will bring a deeper involvement of the Foundation in the issues of European integration and will respond more swiftly to the problems facing the communities in which these organizations are active.

The Resource Center for Ethnocultural Diversity (EDRC) is an independent non-governmental organization co-founded by the Open Society Foundation Romania and Mr. Levente Salat (former director of the Open Society Foundation, Cluj Branch between 1990-1999).

The EDRC is one of the successor institutions of the Open Society Foundation Romania, Cluj Branch. Its activity is based on the experience gathered in the past six years by the Cluj Branch in managing programs in the field of interethnic relationships. Since 1994, the Cluj Branch has initiated and managed a considerable number of programs in this field, by funding projects and initiatives directed towards various aspects of accommodating ethnocultural diversity: research on common history, cultural exchanges, socio-demographic databases, community-level interethnic relationships etc.
